“The longest journey begins with a single step.”

I started a new job yesterday, and I love it.  I am working for Portland Wiz Kids as a teacher for two classes: Computer Animation using ALICE, and Lego’s Robotics.  I had the animation class yesterday (which is really more of a programming class) and the Robotics class is tomorrow.

The animation class was really fun.  It’s all Jr. High boys, and they are all – well – you know, nerdy and shy (not to stereotype or anything).  But it’s a really kick back atmosphere and they are just there to have fun and learn about computers and programming and stuff.  I am excited to come up with some cool ways to teach them about programming.

So this quote was in the instructor book I have for this ALICE software, and I thought it was great.  It was in reference to starting an animation or a project, and after I read it I just sat here (I’m in that coffee shop again (see my random thought below)) for a bit thinking about this journey I am on.

It all began with a single step.

So many people get stuck in their lives because they don’t know how to reach their dreams or their goals.  They don’t know how to best go about achieving what they have in their head… so they don’t move at all.  It is so true that it is nearly impossible to figure out a plan to achieve a goal (chaos theory) but everything begins with a single step.

And that is always the hardest step.

This is just a step along the journey to your life’s work…these jr. high boys are fortunate to have such a compassionate, thoughtful, knowledgable teacher! Love, mom
